New Year, Same me
I'm playing at the ICA + more news
Hello, how are you?
I hope the year is getting off to a good start for you.
Mine has been fairly busy so far, I’ve upped my teaching time to 4 days a week teaching music production in schools which I’m enjoying greatly. Last week I ran a morning of workshops with School of Noise at a girls secondary school in London. We were looking at the process of sampling as well as making & performing Graphic Scores. I’ve done a few workshops with School of Noise & they are always fun, I often come away having learnt something new about sound & the science of sound too.
A few weeks ago I had a lovely session with Indian Classical singer Shivani Sen. Shivani was looking for someone to work with to explore her Indian Classical style with an electronic, more synth focused bed & I was recommended by incredible DJ & lovely person Sway of the Verses (thank you Pritpal!). The session flowed in such a calming way & we ended up completing a whole track in just a few hours. Hopefully we will be able to share more soon, maybe I can share a snippet as a Substack note at some point.
I’ve also been working on a remix for producer Gan Gemi over the last few weeks which should be released fairly soon. I first met Gan Gemi at an event in London called BPM - It’s a kind of showcase/jam/meet up that happens every few months. Producers show up with their equipment, they stand in a line and play something for a few minutes, then there is a crossover with the person next to them for a few minutes, then the next person takes over and so on. The vibe is always great & the quality of them music is high too. It’s so nice to see what people bring to perform their music on too, from full eurorack set-ups to playing Ableton from a laptop. Each one is like a fingerprint for each performer.
Moving on to some big upcoming news… I’m playing with my band at the ICA in London on the 14th March! This is a massive one for me & I’m prepping for it as we speak. After my show at Peckham Levels last year I decided I wanted to move away from having a backing track so I’m exploring ways to perform my music free of a computer that can hopefully be a bit more dynamic & free flowing. I’ll be playing drums & will have my electronic pedal board set-up too, I’ll be joined by Ben Manning on bass & synth bass - he is also suggesting bringing the upright bass to which would be a dream! Someone will be playing keys/synths with us, I’m just in the process of confirming that at the moment. I’ll be joined by Dariés Street-Soul & hopefully Rohan Ayinde too.
All that plus the one & only Jan Jelinek will be performing live. Plus Ben Bertrand, whose music I hadn’t heard before but is really incredible. FYI Robin will also be DJing on the night.
If you can make it, please come along. It’s set to be a really special evening!
Something nice & unexpected that slipped my net last year that’s just been brought to my attention is this little write up about Infinity Mirrors that was in the August edition of MOJO Magazine. Thank you to Andy Cowan for the nice words & sorry for finding it so late! Getting any sort of coverage like this proved to be super difficult for this record & so I really appreciate it.
I do still have copies of the record & I’d love for them to find good homes rather than sit at mine in a cardboard box :) you can get your copy here.
That’s all for now, I’ll be back soon with some more updates. Sending lots of love your way.

Nice updates ..love the idea of some classical India plus electronics...will watch with interest..
