I’m back once again with more new music for you! It’s the third single from my upcoming LP Infinity Mirrors, it’s called New Knew and it features my friend and collaborator Andrew Ashong.
The process for this track was very similar to Somebody Else from my last LP Next to Nothing; I sent Andrew a stripped-back instrumental and he sent back layers and layers of guitar and vocals, all working together with the track in such a organic way. Years went by whilst I was trying to get an album’s worth of music together and at the same time struggling to find a home for it. The whole time I had our track in my playlist of album options.
I finally pieced together the album and decided to start my own label with the help of Albert’s Favourites, at which point I contacted Andrew again. He was surprised to hear the track and thought it might’ve been one that was left behind over the years. We decided to get in the studio together and work on it further to get it to the best that it can be.
Working with Andrew in person was a great learning experience. I feel like he has a mental image of where the track can go and is able to realise that by experimenting and playing. It came on leaps and bounds in the two extra sessions we worked on and I’m so glad that we spent that little bit of extra time getting it there.
New Knew is a celebration of discovering new love for the first time. For me, it reminded me of the birth of my son Senan, which is why I chose the photo for the artwork. I love how this track moves and changes between sections in such an organic way, taking you on a little journey of love.
“A re-velation, a re-view, a re-membering, a re-minder, a re-birth. A new knew.” – Andrew Ashong
While I’m here, I want to direct you to something that has affected Andrew and his partner Aditi greatly. In 2023, their car was pulled over by the police, they were assaulted, arrested and taken to a police station where they were detained overnight. Neither of them were under any influence of drink or drugs and Andrew was driving responsibly. They believe that they were targeted as suspected drug dealers and that a disproportionate use of violence was used against them because they were perceived to be black. They are asking for your support in their legal case against the Metropolitan Police as they seek justice and accountability. Please spare a moment to read their statement in the link below and if you have anything to pledge to help cover their legal costs or are able to help spread the word it would mean a lot.
I recently shared another Ableton Project Walkthrough on my Youtube channel. This time I broke down last month’s single Grow ft Tawiah, Marysia Osu & Alex Cosmo Blake. If you’re interested in that sort of thing, click the link above!
Infinity Mirrors is available to pre-order and pre-save now. These things are really helpful in ensuring the release gets off to a good start and all your support is hugely appreciated!
Finally, ticket sales are live for the album (pre)launch on the 7th June. I’d love to see you there! We’ll be performing in a round for a lovely intimate experience and I’ve got some amazing special guests lined up for you.
Thanks for reading this far! I hope you’re enjoying the music. More to come soon.
