Hello, how are you?
I’ve left it a little longer than I had hoped since my last mailer but here we are. I feel like I’ve run head first into this year, it’s been incredibly productive but also exhausting!
Since I last got in touch, I’ve submitted my next record (more news on that in the coming months), passed my driving test (beepbeep!) and started a new job teaching children music production - which has been a big learning curve but already rewarding and enjoyable nonetheless. I also managed to frazzle my phone whilst trying to back it up and lost 2-3 years worth of phone stuff which has been surprisingly hard to come to terms with. It’s crazy how much we (I) rely on all this data floating around in our pockets.
I’m getting back in touch with a couple of updates…
Worldwide Breakfast: Valentine Comar w/ Hector Plimmer & Nomieye (aka Rosie Turton)
In my last mailer, I mentioned that the lovely Valentine Comar had invited myself & Rosie to come and play at her ‘Valentine invites…’ event at Space Talk in Farringdon. It was a really beautiful evening, it felt really special to be able to share some live electronic music in such an incredible space and it really felt like people were open to sitting and taking in the music. Thank you to everyone who made it down! If you didn’t manage to and you want to hear what happened, you’re in luck. Tomorrow morning (05/02/25) Valentine will be playing our set in full on her Worldwide FM Breakfast show 8AM-11AM BST, with the performance streaming some time between 9AM & 10AM. Here’s a bit about this week’s show:
This week on the Worldwide Breakfast show, we’ll be diving into the rise of deep listening: spaces and experiences designed for intentional engagement with sound.
We’ll be listening to a special live recording of Hector Plimmer & Nomieye (aka Rosie Turton), captured at Space Talk during Valentine’s residency event: “Valentine invites…”. Their performance blends intricate modular synth textures with rich, rhythmic soundscapes, creating an expansive sonic journey. (Live recorded & mixed by Juan Blanco).
We’ll also be speaking with Reuben McKenzie, co-runner of Shai Space, a new event space in Peckham, about their Friday night listening sessions and other ways of connecting with the community through music.
And Is Phi - In Cursive
A few weeks ago And Is Phi released a track that we collaborated on. We started this song a long time ago. Not long after releasing Sunshine Andrea came to the warehouse I was living in Seven Sisters. While I was setting up Andrea started playing drums, I started recording for fun and from there we cut them up, layering and adding bits. My set-up at the time was on an old drafting which had metal wires around the edges, I put a pen under a wire and moved it around whilst twanging it - this ended up being the kind of menacing melodic sound that features throughout the track. From the beginning this track had a darker tone and we started viewing it as the antithesis of Sunshine. Andrea and I always intended to finish this track and we finally got back together recently to do so. It felt good to breathe new life and meaning into it supported by our ongoing musical bond and friendship over the years.
In Cursive is not a gentle piece of music. It’s abrasive, brooding and commanding:
“This song holds the late night feelings, the waking up angry cuz you love the world and don’t want to see it continue to be violated - anger at the ruling class, alchemy as a means of survival and protection, complaint and warning written in cursive: do better”

One thing you need to hear/watch right now!!
I’ve been humming this non-stop since I first heard it. Emma-Jean Thackray has a knack for insanely catchy melodies and her new single Wanna Die is no exception. The contrast of vibrant sounds with the heavy lyrical content make for a powerful contrast. Her album Weirdo is out in April, I’ve had a sneaky listen and it’s a masterpiece. Here are some words from Emma about the record:
It started as a way of accepting my various mental health struggles and became a grief diary after the passing of my soul mate. This is a record about survival.
Watch this beautiful self directed video featuring a band made up entirely of Emma-Jeans, what more could you want?!
Thanks for making it to the end. I’ll be back in a couple of week with some exciting news 💛
